H+3: Porsche n°1 and Audi n°8 on the carpet

While the second hour of racing had just ended at Silverstone, the event changed its appearance. While Brendon Hartley had a comfortable lead, the pilot of the Porsche 919 Hybrid n°1 collided with the n°911 Gulf Racing 86 RSR of Michael Wainwright by folding too early. The New Zealander almost rolled and ended up in the tire wall. At the same time, Lucas di Grassi, who was lacking performance in his No. 18 Audi R8, found himself stopped on track following a mechanical problem.

The Full Course Yellow that followed tightened the positions. Benoît Tréluyer took advantage of the restart to take first place in the No. 7 Audi against the No. 2 Porsche of Marc Lieb. The German remained behind the wheels of the car at the Rings which were engaged in a fierce battle for the lead.

Toyota takes the opportunity to get on the provisional podium with the TS050 Hybrid n°5 of Kazuki Nakajima which is still ahead of Stéphane Sarrazin's No. 6.

G-Drive Racing remains in the lead in LMP2 with René Rast despite electronic problems which caused G-Drive Racing's Oreca 05 to lose the lead in the category. The No. 26 moved up to first place ahead of the Strakka Racing Gibson 015S driven by Danny Watts and the RGR Sport by Morand Ligier JS P2 of Bruno Senna.

AF Corse remains at the top of the GTE Pro with the Ferrari 488 GTE n°71 led by Davide Rigon who precedes theAston Martin Vantage n°95 of Marco Sorensen and the Ford GTs of Billy Johnson and Marino Franchitti. Abu Dhabi Proton Racing retains the lead in GTE Am with the 911 RSR of Khaled Al Qubaisi.
