Technical analysis – New Peugeot 9X8: everything except a B version…

Peugeot has resolved to the inevitable with a very thorough update of its 9X8, which will make its competitive debut at the 6 Hours of Imola on April 21. But reducing this development to the simple addition of a fin would be a big mistake. What we have before our eyes is almost a brand new car.

We forget that Peugeot had already hit the headlines by adding a spoiler to one of its prototypes. It was the 905, and the additional wing was placed at the front. The French manufacturer has this time equipped its hybrid Hypercar with a rear wing, abandoning the ambitious and unique “wingless” concept which has caused so much talk.

The concept of the 9X8 was based on optimal use of ground effect. It presented an extreme solution, taking full advantage of the original Hypercar regulations from 2019 which made the aerodynamic target relatively easy to achieve. The idea of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and the FIA was then to send a clear message to manufacturers: there was no need to spend millions of euros on wind tunnels. Message perfectly understood when we see the quality of the set today.
