Toyota and Porsche on pole at Fuji

If the end of the race could take place in the rain, it was under a beautiful sun and in front of a clearly visible Mount Fuji that qualifying for the 6 Hours of Fuji, second round of the WEC 2019-2020.

At the end of a session interrupted by a red flag following the stopping on the track, after a spin, of the No. 60 Ginetta G1 LT P6, the Toyota n°8 took pole position thanks to an average time of 1'24"822 signed by Brendon Hartley et Kazuki Nakajima. The first row will be 100% Toyota, number 7 of Kobayashi-Conway next at 0”817.

While some saw it fighting for pole position due to the Success Handicap penalizing the two TS050 Hybrids, the #1 Rebellion is only fourth at 1”137. The Senna-Nato-Menezes trio was beaten by the fastest of the two Ginetta G60 LT P1s, namely the No. 6 of Simpson-Robertson-Smith, which conceded 1”067 in the reference time. Curiously, the latter is therefore faster than the n°5 of Orudzhev-Hanley-Ghiotto, relegated to 1”910.

In LM P2, discreet until then, the Jackie Chan DC Racing team set the best time – 1’29”302 – thanks to Ho-Pin Tung and Gabriel Aubry. In second place, we find at 0 United Autosports, which places its trust in Albuquerque-Jarvis-Hanson, while the leading trifecta is completed by the 415 of Jota Sport at the wheel of which Davidson-Gonzalez-Felix da Costa is registered. . Somewhat struggling, theAlpine A470 No. 36 is sixth, but is counting on the homogeneity of its crew to move up the hierarchy tomorrow afternoon.

Unsurprisingly given the performances encountered during free practice, Porsche took pole position in GTE Pro. And this thanks to n°91 by Gianmaria Bruni-Richard Lietz, credited with a . But the session was not easy for the German team, since Michael Christensen – probably the victim of a puncture or a broken suspension – ended his run in the tire piles. Follow the Ferrari 488 GTE n°51 by Calado-Pier Guidi and theAston Martin Vantage AMR n°95 from Sorensen-Thiim, which respectively concede only…0”041 and 0”110. In the end, all the cars lined up in the category are grouped into five tenths.

Lagging behind at Silverstone, the #57 Porsche of Team Project 1 recovered well. The Fraga-Bleekemolen-Keating trio took pole in 1'38"733 ahead of the TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage AMR entrusted to Yoluc-Adam-Eastwood. In third place, despite a 30 kg ballast, we find the No. 488 Ferrari 83 GTE fielded by AF Corse for Collard-Perrodo-Nielsen.

The start of the race will be given tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. French time.
