Acura's pundits have been talking about it for a long time and we announced that the manufacturer was working with Oreca to develop an LMDh car. But this time, it's sure and official: Acura will be present in the category from 2023, in the championship IMSA.
The brand confirmed this in a clear and brief press release. It is the third manufacturer to formalize its involvement in the category, after Audi and Porsche. Unlike the other two, which target IMSA and WEC, Acura clarified that it would focus on the American series, with the aim of also coming to 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Acura is part of the continuity. The brand has already been an integral part of IMSA in the premier category, the Dpi, for three years now, with a title up for grabs last year and nine victories.
First a partner of Team Penske, Acura entrusted its cars to Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing. The Japanese firm did not specify with whom it would enter into LMDh.
