Audi announced this Wednesday the departure of Nico Müller at the end of the season. The Swiss could take charge of a Hypercar program.

Nico Müller leaves Audi, heading to Hypercar?

After René Rast a few weeks ago, Audi formalized this Wednesday the departure of the second driver previously announced in its now buried LMDh project: Nico Müller. The final of DTM at Hockenheim on October 8 and 9 will therefore be the Swiss driver's last meeting with the brand with the rings.

« It was a very difficult decision, says Nico Müller. Audi gave me the chance to enter professional motorsport. I owe the company a lot and am a big fan of the brand and its cars. Furthermore, the cooperation with Audi in Switzerland has always been excellent and very special for me. I still have goals in motorsport that unfortunately cannot be achieved with Audi. Upon entering Formula 1, there are now other priorities at Audi. Therefore, I am very grateful to Rolf Michl for giving me the opportunity to develop further. »

“Just like René Rast, Nico Müller was originally intended to become a pilot for our LMDh project, explains Rolf Michl, Head of Audi Motorsport. Nico prepared intensively for prototype racing with races in the LM P2 category (with Vector Sport. Editor’s note). In addition to Formula E, Nico sees his future at Le Mans and in prototype racing. We cannot offer him that at the moment, so it is with heavy hearts that we have decided together to let him go and give him the opportunity to realize his dream. »

According to these words, Nico Müller would therefore take charge of another Hypercar program. The latest sounds from the paddock indicate an interest of Peugeot . Asked to react to this subject on the sidelines of the 6 Hours of Fuji, Jean-Marc Finot did not wish to comment.
