The season is off to a bad start for Aston Martin et Lance stroll. While he was in full physical preparation in Spain, the Canadian was involved in a “minor accident” on his bike, we learned in a communicated sent by the Silverstone team. Lawrence's son is suffering from injuries that will keep him away from his AMR23 for pre-season testing, scheduled for Thursday to Saturday (February 23-25) at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain.
The Aston Martin driver intends to return as quickly as possible. The exact duration of its unavailability has not been communicated, but Aston Martin specifies that “his ability to regain his place in the car will be managed on a day-to-day basis and the team will speak out ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix”. If they have not spoken about the impact of this absence on the test program, Mike Krack's men should therefore entrust the wheel of the AMR23 to Fernando Alonso during the three days.
As a reminder, earlier in the day, Aston Martin had confided that its two reserve drivers, Felipe Drugovich and Stoffel Vandoorne, would also be left at the disposal of McLaren. If he withdraws from the first Grand Prix of the year, will Lance Stroll be replaced by the Brazilian or the Belgian? For the moment, the Canadian is not withdrawn and intends to regain his seat in eleven days, at the time of the first free practices.
