Will the number of 6 Sprint weekends increase soon in F1 ? Fixed at this figure since last season, the Grands Prix hosting this format could indeed be more numerous in the short term. We are still far from confirmation but the door seems more open than ever, according to Stefano Domenicali.
F1 boss and poster boy for Liberty Media's desire for grandeur, the Italian is constantly looking for new features for the season calendar. He has never hidden his ambition to increase the number of Grands Prix to 25 in the future. So when it comes to promoting the Sprint, the former director of the Team Ferrari says it is ready to explore all possibilities.
« Why not ? replied Stefano Domenicali at the microphone of Sky Sports F1 when asked about the possibility of exceeding 6 Sprints per year in the future. I would say this is a good thing because it keeps the tension going each day. And that's something we'll discuss in the future. Now let's see how the season will go with the sprints and the format we have implemented this year – but that’s a point for discussion."
Nothing is set in stone yet but the question will obviously be studied during the year and in particular during the various FIA World Motor Sport Councils.
To defend his argument, Stefano Domenicali recalled that F1 and Liberty Media have “ the duty to ensure that every day there is action on the track, to respect the fans who come because they want to have fun. » From this point of view, he is not at fault. On the other hand, he should have a little more difficulty finding support within the paddock.

Already, with an extra team, the fans would have 10% more spectacle... but the FOM does not know how to count that.

When will they stop with the Saturday “circus”? Perhaps the day when joint meetings will take place with Motorcycles on Saturday and F1 on Sunday! Why not increase racing in support of Formula 1?

In his place I will schedule 52 GPs and 52 sprint races per year while we are at it to leave no room for competition! No, but frankly does he believe that by multiplying the races, he will increase the audience? I highly doubt it. But is that his problem or rather that of bringing even more dollars into the coffers of the FOM? What about the teams and their staff who will have to work even more?
