Adrien Tambay takes command of his group

Adrien Tambay, new to Cupra, wins the first race of the day in ETCR. This victory gives the Frenchman the lead in his group. He will start on pole in the final of this same group. For Jean Karl Vernay, disqualified the day before, the mission is now to save as many points as possible.

Adrien Tambay takes command of his group

One thing is certain, for this great first, Adrien Tambay (Cupra EKS) does not make Mattias Ekström regret having recruited him for this FIA ETCR season. The Frenchman indeed delivered a perfect copy in this very early morning semi-final on the Pau circuit. He took control of his heat from the start, getting the better of his teammate Tom Blomqvist and Romeo Ferraris driver Maxime Martin. As can be expected, the positions will no longer change in this round despite the Belgian's attempts to pass the Briton. Building on this victory, Tambay leads the debates in the FAST group with 52 points. He will set off a little later today with the possibility of playing for the title of king of the weekend against his boss Mattias Ekström.

In the other semi-final, it's all grimace for Jean Karl Vernay (Hyundai Motorsport). Demoted to semi-final 2 after the engine mapping error for his quarter-final yesterday afternoon, the Lyonnais had to settle for second place in his semi-final. Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai Motorsport), who is making his debut in the discipline, surprised the Frenchman at the start. The Hungarian made perfect use of the lack of grip on a track that was still fresh and a little damp from the Pau night. Vernay had to battle with Luca Filippi (Romeo Ferraris) to save the points for his second place. 5th in the general classification, Vernay was forced to perform in the final to avoid falling too far behind in the World Cup rankings.

FAST group semi-final ranking:

semi-final 1: 1 In Tambay (Cupra) the 3 laps in 4'24″128, 2. T. Blomqvist (Cupra) at 1″6, 3. M. Martin (Romeo Ferraris) at 1″8

semi-final 2: 1 N. Michelisz (Hyundai) the 3 laps in 4'25″245, 2. JK Vernay (Hyundai) at 2″1, 3. L Filippi (Romeo Ferraris) at 10″6
