Matt Kenseth places himself in Chicago

Matt Kenseth (Roush Fenway Racing) is in the fight for the Chase and marks his ambitions by winning the pole for the Chicago oval. The driver of the #17 Ford is ahead of Paul Menard (Richard Childress Racing) and Kurt Busch (Penske Racing) at the start, with the driver of the #22 Dodge also in the race for the title.

The other Chasers also positioned themselves well for this race. Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing) takes fourth place ahead of Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) and Brad Keselowski (Penske Racing).

Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) will be able to try to maintain his first place in the Championship which he currently shares with Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing). The pilot of the Toyota #18 ranks ninth while the #29 Chevrolet only takes 30th place.
