Mattias Ekström continues his momentum

For the first quarter-final of the Furious group, the king of 2021, Mattias Ekström started alongside Mikel Azcona (Hyundai Motorsport) and Giovanni Venturini (Romeo Ferraris). This round delivered its verdict from the first meters after the start. If Ekström seemed to have taken the measure of his opponents, Azcona and Venturini held on. The two men managed to avoid the crash as they approached the large, fast curve just before the station brakes. Summary of the right rear puncture operation for the new Hyundai driver and broken wheel for the Giulia driver. It was enough for Mattias Ekström who won after having competed in the calmest round of his career. He advances to the semi-final without having to battle with his opponents. Azcona managed to bring his injured Veloster back to the pits. Starting off with a new wheel, the young Spaniard finished the race and qualified for the semi-final by finishing one lap behind the Swede's Cupra. The unfortunate Venturini, having abandoned, falls to semi-final 2.

For the second quarter-final, Bruno Spengler was opposed to Jordi Gené and Kevin Ceccon. He's the champion DTM who got the best start in this last round of the day. Without having really been able to escape from Gené and Ceccon, the Canadian signed his first round victory in front of the Spaniard and the Italian. Like Maxime Martin a little earlier in the day, Spengler joins the big semi-final which will be played tomorrow around 10:45 a.m.

FURIOUS group quarterfinal results:

quarter-final 1: 1. M Ekström (Cupra) 3 laps in 4'39"120, 2. M.Azcona (Hyundai) 1 lap, 3. G. Venturini (Romeo Ferraris) retirement

quarter-final 2: 1. B. Spengler (Romeo Ferraris) the 3 laps in 4'24"120, 2. J.Gené (Cupra) at 0"6, 3. K. Ceccon (Hyundai) at 1"1
