Kyle Busch (Toyota) won the Martinsville (Virginia) race after a breathtaking finish where many contenders for victory saw their hopes go up in smoke in the final laps. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver took the advantage on the last restart at the cost of a slight push over his teammate Denny Hamlin and thus avoided the pileup at the finish caused by the loss of control of the Camry n driver #11 hit by Ryan Blaney (Ford).
The 2015 champion beat Martin Truex Jr (Toyota) while Clint Bowyer (Ford) completed the top three. Long leader, Brad Keselowski (Ford) had to settle for fourth place after being roughed up during one of the last restarts where the Penske driver was jostled by Chase Elliott (Chevrolet) while choosing to take the outside line.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver was still close to a first victory in Nascar Cup Series, but he was ultimately only able to take 27th place after being hit by Denny Hamlin. The driver of the SS n°24 is the worst placed in the playoffs since he is 26 points from the top four.
