TCR World Tour – Michelisz champion ahead of Ehrlacher

©TCR Media. Second world title for Hungarian Michelisz with Hyundai Motorsport

Eighth at the finish of race 2, Norbert Michelisz is now a double champion of an international touring car championship. After his WTCR title acquired in 2019, the 39-year-old Hungarian once again proves his worth by enriching his record with a new crown. Most of the work had been done by Michelisz before this final race in Macau. Poleman and winner of race 1, the driver Hyundai Motorsport started this last round with an 18-point lead over Huff and 20 over Ehrlacher. He was going to run a wise race, listening to his team who kept him informed of the points for the general classification.

Huff trapped

The Briton drove a very patient race until 3 laps from the finish, in the wake of Fred Vervisch (Audi) then Santiago Urrutia when his teammate managed to take the advantage over the Uruguayan. Huff will be surprised by a sudden slowdown of the Lynk & Co driver. The double contact between the two cars will open the engine hood of the Briton who will fall back on the windshield of the Audi. Out of the race, the Englishman is fuming to see the title slipping away from under his nose. Yann Ehrlacher took the opportunity to move up to 3rd place in this race, but slowed down by too low a top speed, the Alsatian had to be content with this position, he was no longer able to threaten Michelisz for the title.

Fred Vervisch offers a great victory to his Comtoyou Racing team for the last battle of the season. The Belgian wins Urrutia and Ehrlacher. Norbert Michelisz crossed the finish line in 8th position, synonymous with a title for him. This is the second title for Hyundai in 2 years after that of Azcona last year in WTCR. BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse under the leadership of Gabriele Tarquini only confirms its know-how in touring racing. The final championship podium is therefore: Michelisz, Ehrlacher and Huff.

These boys will all meet for the grand final of the TCR World Tour next March at the Portimao circuit in Portugal.
