Marcello Lotti never wastes his time after a year in purgatory since the disappearance of the WTCR, the world championship set up by the Italian businessman regains its World Cup status. The 2023 season has just been won by Norbert Michelisz and despite a certain lack of media coverage, WSC, the promoter of the TCR WT, has managed to keep the ship afloat. Since the disappearance of the WTCR, the number of entrants has not really increased. The world regulars all responded. 2023 marks the big return of Cyan Racing Link & Co, the Chinese brand enters 4 cars for its house drivers: Yann Ehrlacher, Santiago Urrutia, Thed Bjork and Ma Qing Hua have all returned. Facing them, the Audis of Rob Huff and Fred Vervisch were going to give them a hard time. The big favorites however being the drivers Hyundai Norbert Michelisz the Hungarian and his young teammate, the reigning WTCR winner, the Spaniard Mikel Azcona. The trick found by the promoters to inflate its starting grids is to have World Tour aces participate in rounds of local or continental championships contested with cars in the TCR category. The number of entries per event oscillates between 20 and 25 cars, which therefore makes the grids look great. The other strong point of this championship is the destinations. The 2023 season visited tracks like Spa Francorchamps, Bathurst and Macau via South America.

An attractive 2024 calendar

The TCR World Tour will be able to boast next year of visiting all continents (Europe, North Africa, North and South America, Asia and Australia). The season will open in Italy on the Vallelunga circuit at the end of April. The World Cup will then travel to Marrakech on a circuit well known to all the competitors. Then something new, for regulars, with the Mid Ohio circuit and which will mark the great return of a world touring championship in the United States. Summer will then be the time for the South American tour with 2 countries visited (Brazil and Uruguay). Then head to China on the unique Zhuzhou route. As in 2023, Australia and Macau will be the last rounds of a championship which should experience great growth. All that remains is to trust Marcello Lotti and his teams to replenish his grid and compensate for Audi's departure from all customer competition.

I hope that we will be able to experience this new world championship on a free French television channel like L'team TV 21
