Change the finely cut grass of the hedges of a French racecourse for sand, replace the horses with camels and you get a camelodrome, the place where the “sport of the sheikhs” is held every Friday. In the Middle East, these camel races are so anchored in local culture that UNESCO classified this discipline as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2020, shortly after the Dakar burst into Saudi Arabia. This is good, Friday has also become the final arrival date of the rally-raid for the last three years in order to respect the weekly rest day. By covering the 164 km which led him to the last timing cell near Qiya, Nasser Al-Attiyah did not have to whip his mount to win
