Starting this morning 25 minutes behind Mitch Guthrie and Kellon Walch this morning, the trained dentist benefited from a transmission failure on the American crew's Taurus during the last special. She finished 35 minutes ahead, and became the first woman since Jutta Kleinschmidt in 2001 to win the Dakar. The difference was that the German had obtained a victory in the general classification over Mitsubishi while Cristina Gutiérrez won the second level of the Dakar.

“It shows that you always have to fight on the Dakar, and never give up, declared the 32-year-old pilot after being carried in triumph by those close to her. Thanks to the organization for this fantastic race. I can not believe it ! I don't know what's happening to me. I will never forget this day. It’s part of my values to never give up. It’s the best way to end my Challenger career. »

Cristina Gutiérrez also had a thought for “Carles Falcon, the biker who died a few days ago. This victory is dedicated to him, just like to the children who are hospitalized in Burgos, they support me. » The town hall of Burgos (Castile and Leon), birthplace of the future teammate of Nasser Al-Attiyah and Sébastien Loeb, has already announced that she will organize a reception in honor of the pilot. The first name of the mayor of the city of 175 inhabitants? Cristina, of course!
