Does the series of stage victories in the second week of the Dakar erase the disappointment of the first?
Of course, it's always nice to break records, even if that wasn't a goal in itself on this Dakar. Above all, I wanted to create a beautiful rally and fight for final victory. When I'm older, I'll certainly look back on this record fondly, but that's not what matters to me today.
Do you understand better why you lost so much time on this second stage (1h20 on Al-Attiyah, the future winner)?
I simply punctured three times, even though I was really paying attention. Frankly, it's bad luck. I knew even before the start of this special that the tires were a little fragile for this type of stony terrain.
