After the first three rounds of the season, one might think Elfyn Evans is satisfied to be in second place in the Drivers' championship, six points behind the leader. Thierry Neuville...but that would be a poor understanding of the Welshman's tenacity. If the pilot Toyota managed to score big points on the first three rallies, all as atypical and historic as each other (Monte-Carlo, Sweden, Kenya), it nevertheless retains a taste of unfinished business at the start of the season.
Despite two podiums and a fourth place, the lack of victory leaves Elfyn Evans slightly bitter. The Briton hopes to be able to unlock his counter at the next meeting, on Rally from Croatia, a less demanding event than the first three.
“The first three events are very specific and they all were, underlines the Welsh. Now we move on to more, shall we say, normal rallies. For the first three rallies, the settings are different and there are a little more compromise. Although the weather in Croatia can be interesting, it is not the same as the snow [in Sweden] and the ice in Monte Carlo. »
Elfyn Evans dissatisfied with his start to the season
Title holder on the Croatia Rally, which he won in 2023 in a very difficult context following the disappearance of Craig Breen a few days earlier, Elfyn Evans is counting on this round on asphalt to put pressure on Thierry Neuville. The Belgian notably made a mistake last year in the Croatian event. However, with the new scale in force, the three-time world vice-champion knows that consistency will be key throughout the weekend, so that victory has real meaning from an accounting point of view.
“It's a good thing to take points at the start of the season but I can't say I'm happy with the way the start of the year has gone for us, regrets Elfyn Evans. The last rally in Kenya was difficult, the weekend was not easy, but the positive point was the finish. The positive point is having finished the rally. We are focused on the next one. »
