On rallies for four seasons now, the I20 R5 is preparing to say goodbye. From next year, the I20 N Rally 2 will take over. A car that Hyundai presented this Wednesday.
Based on the chassis of the production car, the I20 N Rally 2 is the fruit of the work of Hyundai's sports department over the past five years. Around sixty people worked on this project from the South Korean manufacturer.
The aerodynamics, which we find on the production car with the “Sensuous Sportiness” identity in particular, have been revisited. If the gearbox (5-speed sequential) is retained, Hyundai is banking on a new 1,6 L turbocharged engine as well as new shock absorbers and new suspension parts.
“The new I20 N Rally2 shows how far we have come over the last five years and the creation of the sporting department. Every aspect of the new car is an improvement on the original thanks to the design work carried out by the team of designers and engineers,” emphasizes Andrea Adamo, Hyundai Motorsport Director.
The I20 N Rally 2 will begin an extensive testing program by the end of the month. The first deliveries to customers and approval are planned for summer 2021. It will then be able to make its competition debut.
