Until now, the transition to hybrid has mainly been demonstrated by tests carried out by the three manufacturers on different surfaces. Under the leadership of Andrea Adamo, Hyundai wanted to step outside of this framework to project what the discipline will have in store from Monte-Carlo.

In the Alba region, not far from Turin, the team simulated the unfolding of a rally. Stages were run several times to provide significant mileage, a service park was planned and the use of hybrid was implemented as it should be in a few months.

On the link towards the first time trial, a sign installed at the entrance to a village indicated the start of the VEH (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) zone. At this level, Ott Tänak (Thierry Neuville will also take the wheel for the same exercise, Editor's note) engaged the hybrid mode and the i20 Rally1 crossed the town in silence. The opposite operation was carried out a few kilometers further. According to the classic cutting of a sleeve of the WRC, it was planned at the end of the day for the car to return to its base and for the batteries to be recharged.
