Sébastien Ogier passed from a status of holder to freelancer, Esapekka Lappi was recalled by the Toyota Gazoo Racing, the team whose colors he had already worn in 2017 and 2018. Thus, the Finn has competed in 7 rounds this season in the Yaris which he shares with the Habs, notably collecting 3 podiums (Sweden, Finland and Belgium) for a total of 58 points.

As we get closer to the end of the season, Esapekka Lappi must sort out his future within the WRC. Perhaps too fair to claim a new starting position in the Japanese team, the Nordic hopes that it will still be extended.

« On the last rallies, I think I did everything I could to keep this steering wheel, does he think.  We were hired to bring points to the team and I did that, so I think we can continue if you look at it that way »

If it is a full-time drive that he wishes to obtain, Esapekka Lappi is aware that the places in the premier category are not numerous, and even fewer at Toyota where we are fully counting on Kalle Rovanperä, Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta .

« I would like to do more, but it is what it isHe says. I knew it was like that from the moment I started. I feel the pace improves when I drive more regularly. » A steering wheel that he will ultimately not find again for the season. Initially announced for New Zealand, Sébastien Ogier will ultimately contest the last 3 rallies of the season (Catalonia and Japan), leaving Esapekka Lappi on the sidelines until 2023.
