Towards a WRC championship more open than expected?

The progress of Monte-Carlo had given rise to concerns that we were witnessing a one-sided season with Kalle Rovanperä and the Toyota team in steamroller mode. On the contrary, the Nordic rally gives us hope for a lively competition.

Towards a WRC championship more open than expected?

En WRC, the truth of one test is rarely identical to that which follows. There are many parameters that come into play such as the surface area, the order of passage or the quality of the preparation. This last subject once again agitated the service park before the departure from Sweden.

Fewer tests, more WRC spending?

The Scandinavian meeting being the only one on the calendar to take place in truly winter conditions, it always requires a special approach. This is in fact the only time of the year when competitors use studded tires, and driving on ice or snow has become an exclusive exercise. None of the three WRC teams wanted to sacrifice this trip. Toyota et Hyundai were able to prepare it all the better as their permanent test base is in Finland where the cold and the white were required. M-Sport for his part went directly to the region of the race. What was different this year was the addition of participation in national rallies for three drivers who needed to try to boost their confidence. Supporting all the hopes of M-Sport, Ott Tänak went to roll home with a victory to boot. Esapekka Lappi – who still has to learn the i20 – raced in Finland as did Takamoto Katsuta who, for the first time, scored Manufacturers points for Toyota in the absence of Sébastien Ogier. These extra kilometers and in competition necessarily helped the crews, which the Finn and the Japanese recognized. Was it a coincidence that they monopolized the shakedown podium after the first run which is still stupid
