JDC-Miller and Oreca winners at Watkins Glen

Third round of the North American Endurance Cup, the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen (New York) saw the first victory this season for JDC-Miller Motorsports and an Oreca 07 in IMSA. The trio Stephen Simpson – Misha Goikhberg – Chris Miller finished ahead of another Oreca 07, the No. 54 – CORE Autosport of Romain Dumas – John Bennett – Colin Braun.

Simpson took the advantage during a restart by overtaking the #10 – Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-VR of Jordan Taylor and the #05 – Acura Team Penske Acura ARX-6 of Juan Pablo Montoya before making up a sufficient lead to no longer be worried at the end of the race.

The #99 “Red Dragon” finally won ahead of the #54 Oreca of Romain Dumas, author of a thunderous end to the race. The Frenchman, recent new record holder for the climb of Pikes Peak (Colorado), failed less than two seconds behind the winning LM P2 and preceded the first DPi of Montoya – Cameron.

The top 5 is completed by the Ligier JS P217 – #32 – United Autosports of Hanson – Senna – di Resta and the Cadillac DPi-VR #10 – Wayne Taylor Racing, with the first five cars finishing 12″ behind.

Ford dominated the GTLM with the #66 of Joey Hand and Dirk Müller, who scored their first success of the year in IMSA, following their podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Sébastien Bourdais. The Ford Chip Ganassi Racing tandem won after a pit stop at the end of the race just before a neutralization for debris, with Müller thus regaining control of the category.

The German contains the Corvette C7.R n°3 of Magnussen – Garcia et les deux Porsche 911 RSR n°911 de Tandy – Pilet et n°912 de Vanthoor – Bamber. Si BMW n’a pas brillé en GTLM, la marque allemande peut se consoler avec la victoire en GTD, la première d’une M6 GT3 cette saison, avec la n°96 du Turner Motorsport of Palttala – Yount – Machavern.
