Surprise announcement in IndyCar, from the Dale Coyne Racing team: Luca Ghiotto will be aboard the No. 51 Dallara-Honda for the next two meetings, at Barber (April 28) and Indianapolis (May 11), on the road circuit.

The Italian will discover the discipline, having spent five seasons in Formula 2 and who was a test pilot for Williams en Formula 1, in 2017. Engaged this season in ELMS with Inter Europol, the 29-year-old driver had already driven across the Atlantic, during the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2022.

Luca Ghiotto takes over the place left vacant by Colin Braun, present during the first round of IndyCar in St. Pete, and Nolan Siegel, who had the seat at Long Beach. After the Indianapolis Grand Prix, the native of Arzignano (Italy) will leave his seat to Katherine Legge, who will participate in the Indy500 aboard the No. 51.

“I’m very excited to make my IndyCar debut this weekend at Barber, rejoiced Luca Ghiotto. I spent most of my career overseas, but I was always intrigued and wanted to try IndyCar. It will be my first time driving this car and my first time driving this circuit, so there is a learning curve and a challenge ahead, but I'm looking forward to it. »

“We know it won't be easy for Luca to get behind the wheel of a car without any testing, said team owner Dale Coyne. That said, he has a lot of experience in different types of racing cars and has proven himself over the years. We can't wait to see what he can do in the next two races and we know he will bring his experience and knowledge to the team. »
