Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai) took pole for WTCR Race 1 in Vila Real (Portugal). The BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse resident completed a lap of the urban circuit in 1'59''498, ahead of his teammate Augusto Farfus by almost 3 tenths. Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) followed in 3rd position ahead of Rob Huff (Volkswagen), while Ma Qing Hua (Alfa Romeo) had time to place himself in 5th place before suffering a puncture at the end of the session.
Aurélien Panis (Cupra) placed in 7th place between Nicky Catsburg (Hyundai) and Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen). Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) took 12th position ahead of his compatriot Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co). The leader of the classification Esteban Guerrieri (Honda) only set the 19th fastest time.
The session was interrupted several times, mainly following contact with the barriers.
