The 2022 Dakar goes from bad to worse for Giniel de Villiers (Toyota). The South African, pinned for not having provided assistance to a motorcyclist he had hit during the first stage on Sunday January 2, was again targeted for a similar accident during the second stage, Monday January 3.

The winner of the 2009 edition, sailed by Dennis Murphy, actually rode on Mohamedsaid Aoulad Ali's motorcycle. The Moroccan had just fallen behind a dune around km 180 and was preparing to pick up his KTM when he heard a car arriving. Fortunately he had time to move to the side before the Toyota ran over the motorcycle.

According to the race stewards' incident report, Giniel de Villiers did not stop. “He only made a loop to visually assess the situation. He then continued his run. »

The jury of commissioners transferred the file to the Auto College in order to determine the action to be taken for this accident. Among the documents transmitted are the photos of the damaged motorcycle, the copy of the biker's declaration, the jury's report, the record of the routes of the two competitors as well as the report of the Sentinel system, supposed to warn any Dakar competitor of the proximity of a vehicle in front or behind them.
