1. Who is Sophia Floersch?

Sophia Floersch is a German racing driver born on December 1, 2000 in Grünwald, Germany. She has managed to make a name for herself in the world of motorsport thanks in particular to her participation in several seasons of Formula 3 and in Endurance in recent years, an environment often considered difficult for young women.

2. Sophia Floersch’s junior career

Sophia Floersch began her career in karting in 2005. She traveled across Europe until 2014 where she had the opportunity to become the first woman but also the youngest driver in three series in which she participated (2008 SAKC Championship , 2009 ADAC German Championship and 2010 European Championship Easykart) before leaving the world of karting.

Before taking the plunge into single-seaters, Sophia Floersch tried her luck in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2015 with half a season of competition. Enough to finish just outside the Top 10 in the final ranking with four podiums, including two victories at the Thruxton Circuit meeting.

She made her Formula 4 debut in 2016 in F4 Germany with the Motopark team and quickly attracted attention due to her young age and promising talent. Sophia Floersch then moved up the ranks to Formula 3 in 2018.

To confirm this rise, Sophia Flörsch managed to progress between her first and second year of F4 Germany since she went from 19th in the standings in 2016 to 13th in 2017 with numerous finishes in the points and even two podiums.

To start in the FIA ​​Formula 3 Championship Europe, Sophia Floersch had to wait, missing the first three rounds. His FIA Formula 3 Championship Europe campaign was not a success with only one points finish with a 10th place at the Red Bull Ring at the end of the year.

Sophia Flörsch made headlines in November 2018 when she was involved in a horrific crash during the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix. Her car left the track at high speed and flew over the safety barriers before to hit a building. Fortunately, although injured, she escaped with vertebral fractures which did not pose a risk to her life.

Despite this accident, Flörsch showed impressive resilience in returning to competition after his recovery period. She has become a symbol of courage and determination for many motorsport fans around the world. Since then, she has continued to compete in Formula 3 races and other international automotive events.

After a season of Formula 3 Europe, Sophia Floersch decided to move to European Regional Formula, still with Van Amersfoort Racing. Over the 25 races of the year, Sophia Flörsch finished in the points 24 times and finished the season in 7th place in the championship with 149 points, making her the best woman. A promising campaign which allows him not to repeat a grade to try his luck in FIA Formula 3.

However, the experience is very difficult, as she is the only woman on the grid. Under the colors of Campos Racing, the German often placed among the last and did not score points during the entire 2020 season.

At the same time, Sophia Floersch is trying out Endurance with a participation in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans 2020 with Richard Mille Racing Team in LMP2. Still with the same team, the German also proves herself in the European Le Mans Series.

The following year, she decided to put her single-seater career on hold to devote herself to endurance racing with participation in the entire WEC season, still under the colors of the Richard Mille Racing Team. In the European Le Mans Series she freelances with Algarve Pro Racing in Portimão (Portugal). She also made history in the European Le Mans Series as she became the first woman in the category to reach the podium.

She even managed to double the lead during the first round of the 2022 season at Paul-Ricard where she finished in 2nd place on the podium alongside Bent Viscaal, still with Algarve Pro Racing. A second podium in the European Le Mans Series.

After two seasons dedicated to Endurance with the WEC and the European Le Mans Series, as well as the DTM, Sophia Floersch returns to single-seaters. Back in Formula 3, this time she wears the colors of PHM Racing by Charouz.

For this comeback in Formula 3, she is one of the member drivers of theAlpine Academy. On the track, everything is not rosy but Sophia Floersch manages to put in some good performances like her 7th place in the Main Race at Spa-Francorchamps.
