With each new iteration, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS gets closer to the competition. The new version, based on the type 992, presented this Wednesday, August 17, is further proof of this.

The German track car, still approved for use on open roads, incorporates several innovations seen in racing, and in particular on the 911 RSR victorious in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and 24 Hours of Le Mans in GTE Pro and the 911 GT3 R of theIGTC and SRO badge championships.

For example, and this is a first in the history of this model, a single radiator is placed in a central position. On earlier versions of the GT3 RS, the cooling system featured not one, but three radiators. The new GT3 RS wears an angled radiator in the nose of the vehicle, where the luggage compartment sits in front of the windshield.

This change frees up space on the sides of the Porsche to integrate active aerodynamic elements. This is also the second innovation on this 911 GT3 RS. Continuously adjustable fins are affixed to the front and rear of the car, with other processes making it possible to provide 409 kg of downforce at 200 km/h.

This value is twice as large as its big sister, the GT3 RS type 991.2, and three times as large as the current 911 GT3! Launched at 285 km/h, the total aerodynamic downforce is 860 kg; it won't be too much when it comes time to attack the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Came from the F1, DRS (Drag Reduction System) will be incorporated for the first time on a production Porsche. This allows the bi-plane rear wing to open to increase top speed and reduce downforce. Fun fact: for the first time on a production Porsche, the upper plane of the rear wing is higher than the roof of the car!

The 911 GT3 RS is 29 mm wider than the civilized 911 GT3 version. You have to stay on your wheels when behind you, the 4.0 liter naturally aspirated engine spits out 525 horsepower! The development of new camshafts makes it possible to obtain this power. The single-throttle intake system and rigid valvetrain are derived from motorsport.

In addition, the seven-speed PDK gearbox has been modified so that the gear ratio is shorter. As a result, 0 to 100 km is reached in just 3 seconds and the maximum speed is set at 2 km/h in the last gear. The weight of the machine is 296 kg thanks to the use of light materials. The purchase price is set in Germany at 1 euros and orders are open.
