When Sally from the film “Cars” becomes reality thanks to Porsche

What unites Porsche and Pixar studios? At first glance, not much. But children (and parents) who watched the animated film “Cars” in 2006 necessarily remember Sally, a sky blue Porsche 911 playing one of the main roles. Fifteen years later, Sally becomes reality through a unique model.

A little reminder for the less movie buffs. In “Cars”, Sally meets Lightning McQueen, pilot of Nascar lost in the village of Radiator Springs before the championship final. The Porsche 911 will make the young champion understand that there is more to life than sport and that self-centeredness is not a quality for fulfillment.

The idea of ​​building a “real” Porsche 911 inspired by Sally is born in November 2021. Pixar's Creative Director, Jay Ward, and the Designer responsible for Sally in the film, Bob Pauley, were assisted by members of Porsche design in Weissach and the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur department in Stuttgart.

The result is a truly beautiful 911 Sally Special. The typical rims of the old 911 type 996 have been adopted and widened to 20 and 21 inches. Based on the 911 Carrera GTS developing 480 horsepower, the Sally Special has a manual gearbox. The level of customization and detail reminiscent of the film is high. The paint is a unique shade applied by hand. We even find Sally's tattoo on the back!

“We had a lot of fun creating 911 Sally Special and this is the first time we've worked on a project like this, says Jay Ward, creative director of the Pixa Animation Studios franchiser. We decided early on that we wanted to create a completely drivable 911 – inspired by Sally Carrera, but just not an exact copy. Sally Carrera loves driving – that was our inspiration. We asked ourselves: If Sally were built today as a road-legal model, what would it look like? »

The 911 Sally Special will be sold on August 20, 2022 on the sidelines of Monterey Car Week in California during the RM Sotheby's sale. All proceeds will be donated to two charities, one for Girls Inc., which helps young women, and the other for Ukrainian refugees in the United States.
