The name of Vic Elford is inseparable from that of Porsche. It was with the German brand, and at the wheel of a 906, that the London native won the S category of 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967, for his first participation in Sarthe. The following year, Elford entered Formula 1, with Cooper. He immediately took 4th place at the French Grand Prix, in Rouen-les-Essarts. He started 13 Grands Prix, with Cooper, Antique Automobiles then BRM. In 1968, he won the 24 Hours of Daytona with a Porsche 907, signing the manufacturer's first double-clock victory. He also won the Targa Florio, the Nürburgring 1000 km and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

In addition to its performance in Endurance and in Formula 1, Victor Henry Elford was also an accomplished rally driver. He won the European championship in 1967, and counts the Monte-Carlo Rally on his list of achievements. In 1973, Elford took a second class victory at Le Mans, in GT 5.0, driving a Ferrari 365 GTB/4.
