Gordon Murray details the T.12's V50 engine

A unique and bodybuilt beast to the max. This is how Gordon Murray describes his latest creation, the T.50. The designer, responsible for the Brabham single-seaters F1 in the 70s and 80s, will only officially present the supercar on August 4.

But he wanted to do a little teaser detailing the muscles of the beast. It will notably be powered by a 12-liter Cosworth V3,9. “The powertrain will be the world’s fastest, most responsive, most power-dense and lightest naturally aspirated V12 road car engine” depending on the brand. Just that.

Gordon Murray gave primary importance to the engine. “More than half of any great driving experience is provided by the engine, so from the start I set the bar as high as possible to create the world's best naturally aspirated V12,” comments the South African. “ To be truly special, an engine must be highly responsive, sound incredible, have engaging torque, and must be naturally aspirated. For all these reasons, the engine in the T.50 could never have been anything other than a V12. »

Gordon Murray absolutely wanted a light engine. It was therefore inspired by the 3.3-liter V12 of the Ferrari 250 GTO and Formula 1 engines, including the McLaren MP4 from the 90s.

Finally, the roar of the beast was not forgotten. “ The T.50's engine will be phenomenal. The intoxicating growl that riders love is introduced as the throttle angle increases, the sound intensifying as you push toward the upper end of the rev range. The V12 will sing like nothing else on the road. ”

To hear him sing, go on August 4. But the hundred copies that will be produced have already found buyers.
