Honda goes wild on the Civic Type-R Limited Edition

To start 2020 off on the right foot, Honda is giving its Civic Type-R a facelift. Two versions were unveiled at the factory of Italian preparer JAS Motorsport on Tuesday February 18 near Milan.

First of all, the Civic Type R GT is the new name for the Japanese sports sedan. Stylistically, the very original look is retained. Apart from a new grille to improve the cooling system, the changes are located under the body.

Handling should be improved by the adoption of new front suspension cups, while the front and rear silent blocks are new. Drivers will be able to shamelessly slam on the brakes thanks to the introduction of two-piece floating front discs, which help delay overheating and reduce braking noise.

Under the hood, the 2.0 liter Vtec turbo engine is retained and does not change. It still displays 320 horsepower for 400 Nm of torque. The Honda Civic Type R GT will be available for sale in France in the coming months.

Then, the Italian engineers from JAS Motorsport (responsible for Honda's WTCC then WTCR programs) also went wild on the Type R Limited Edition. Painted yellow, only 1 copies will be produced worldwide, including 000 for Europe and only 100 in France.

The inspiration seems to come from the Trophy-R version of the Renault Megan. Indeed, this Type R is even more extreme than the base version. It is equipped with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires, the same tire as the Porsche 918 Hybrid.

In addition, the air conditioning and the audio/GPS system have been forgotten, in order to become lighter. The engine gains in melody thanks to the removal of multiple soundproofing panels.

In total, 47 kg were saved, with the following distribution: – 10,4 kg on the air conditioning, – 5,4 kg on the audio system, – 14,3 kg on the noise absorbers, – 10 kg on the rims (20-inch forged BBS) and – 6,9 kg with various mechanical components.

If this Limited Edition will not be very suitable during the heatwave, you will still be able to take your children on the rear deck. Indeed, the two seats are retained.

In the end, count on an increase of around 6 euros for the Type R Limited Edition compared to the Type-R GT, which already costs 000 euros.
