The Geneva Motor Show towards cancellation in 2021

Logically canceled for this year 2020, faced with the coronavirus pandemic, the Geneva Salon was expected to return in 2021, especially since the Council of State of the Swiss Federation was willing to grant a loan of 16,8 million Swiss francs to help the Foundation organizing the show.

But the study of the conditions for obtaining this financial loan proved to be contrary to the foundation's statutes. “The Foundation thanks the Council of State for the bill aimed at granting this loan to GIMS, indicate the organizers in a press release.

However, the conditions accompanying this loan and, in particular, aimed at the complete subcontracting of the Show including the conceptualization to Palexpo SA are unfortunately not acceptable to the Foundation. Indeed, they are contrary to the statutes and in particular to the purpose of the Foundation for more than 100 years.

On the other hand, the organization of an edition in 2021 is very uncertain for the moment – a condition linked to the emergency clause of the bill. Indeed, the major exhibitors of GIMS encourage us and strongly recommend that we consider the next edition in 2022. It is therefore with deep regret that the Foundation is forced to abandon the loan proposal from the State of Geneva. »

It is therefore towards a cancellation for 2021 that we are heading with a next edition of one of the major automobile shows scheduled for 2022.
