It took a long time to arrive, a long time. Five years ago now, Mercedes presented a crazy concept: the Mercedes-AMG Project One, a hypercar with the characteristics of a Formula 1. A crazy idea that has caused many skeptics. It must be said that the long wait did not help, while persistent rumors announced the death of the project. Today, there are no longer any plans… because the Mercedes-AMG ONE has indeed been born!

Wednesday, the brand with the star has finally presented the definitive version of his “automotive of superlatives” with the name ONE. A car with incredible aesthetics and technical specifications.

The ONE, one of a kind

Designed closely with the Mercedes F1 team and in collaboration with Lewis Hamilton, the ONE is a pure road Formula 1 car. Where to start ? The motorization first. Under the hood, a 6L turbo-hybrid V1.6 directly from the technology used in F1. The internal combustion engine produces 574 hp and is mated to 4 electric motors. Total power announced: 1063 hp!

We find F1 technologies, such as MGU-K and MGU-H. Likewise, several driving modes are available, including a “Strat 2” mode which allows maximum power to be deployed. A kind of party fashion for the road. For reasons of reliability and consumption, the engine speed range has been reduced, but the ONE can reach a speed of almost 11 revolutions per minute. The only real difference with F000: the hypercar has 1-wheel drive.

The Mercedes-AMG ONE is a lightning bolt in acceleration: 0 to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 7,0 seconds and 0 to 300 km/h in 15,6 seconds, for a maximum speed (restricted) to 352 km/h.

The monocoque chassis is made of carbon fiber for a weight contained under 1,7 tonnes (1695 kg). The aerodynamics are directly inspired by Formula 1. Rear wing, diffuser, air intakes, everything has been studied in the wind tunnel, with the added bonus of active aerodynamics. Fins raise and lower depending on the speed reached. Inside the cabin, we find an F1-style steering wheel with buttons and paddles, but also all modern comforts such as air conditioning or infotainment screens. Let's not forget that this remains a car intended for the road...

Unfortunately for those who would be interested, the 275 models put up for sale all found buyers for the modest sum of 2,75 million euros per copy. The Mercedes-AMG ONE will make its first demonstration at the Goodwood Festival from June 23 to 26.
