Death of Jacques Calvet, the former CEO of PSA

He is one of the former great chefs of the PSA Group Peugeot -Citroën which is gone. Jacques Calvet, former director of the group between 1982 and 1997, died on Thursday April 9 at the age of 88 in Dieppe (Seine-Maritime).

After studying at Sciences Po Paris, Jacques Calvet worked at the Ministry of Finance as chief of staff for Valéry Giscard d'Estaing from 1959 to 1974. He subsequently took the presidency of the French bank BNP until his arrival at PSA. The automobile group is seeking to bounce back from the oil crises of the 1970s, a major challenge that it managed to overcome.

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Jacques Calvet and I would like to express on behalf of all Groupe PSA employees our sincere condolences to his wife and family. Jacques Calvet, a great visionary, led the company from 1984 to 1997, making it a leading automobile manufacturer., commented Carlos Tavares, current CEO of Groupe PSA.

“I would like to salute the memory of this great captain of industry who is leaving us, endowed with rare courage and unfailing determination which must inspire us. Given the crisis we are going through, his example obliges us and commits us to protect the company in the interest of its employees, as he has always known how to do.", he added.

Known for having been a great boss of character, Jacques Calvet enabled the PSA Group to resist competition, whether it came from Renault or Asian competitors, for almost two decades. After his time in the automobile industry, he continued his career in various groups listed on the CAC 40.
