Nissan-Mitsubishi advances its conclusions on the Carlos Ghosn affair

Nissan and Mitsubishi have delivered their first conclusions regarding the case Carlos Ghosn, the president of Renault, and formerly head of Nissan and Mitsubishi.

The two Japanese brands thus indicated by press release that the industrial boss had received unmotivated payments, from the entity Nissan-Mitusbishi BV (NMBV), a joint venture created in 2017, with the aim of exploring and to seek possible synergies between the two brands, following on from the alliance established in 2016.

Carlos Ghosn was thus appointed director of NMBV and ratified an employment contract with remuneration of 7 euros.

“Despite the clear requirement that any decisions regarding director compensation and employment contracts specifying compensation be approved by the NMBV Board of Directors, Mr. Ghosn entered into the contract without any discussion with others board members, Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa and Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko improperly receiving payments, mentions Nissan-Mitsubishi.

The investigation also confirmed that shortly after the 2016 announcement of a strategic alliance between Nissan and Mitsubishi, Mr. Ghosn, former chief executive Greg Kelly and others began exploring the possibility of paying undisclosed compensation to Mr. Ghosn, via a joint venture established in the Netherlands. »

Nissan immediately indicates that it wants to recover these sums paid, while Carlos Ghosn had recently spoken for the first time in front of the judges, before being indicted again.
