Porsche unveils the new 935

The news is enough to excite the “Porschists”! The Stuttgart manufacturer presented a new edition of the famous 935 at the “Rennsport Reunion” event on the Laguna Seca circuit (California).

This new Porsche 935 was created on the basis of the 911 GT2 RS by taking up many aspects of the vehicle which won a hat-trick in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1979. The designers of the German brand notably took the tapered shape of the legend nicknamed “Moby Dick”. Its total length is 4,87m and 2,03m wide. The new 935 also uses the white livery seen in Sarthe or at Daytona a few decades earlier. The Martini decoration will be optional.

This new Porsche actually offers a clever mix of nostalgia and modernism. These rear LED lights placed on the spoiler come from the 919 Hybrid LM P1. The mirrors come from the 911 RSR, but the titanium exhaust outlet comes from the 908 from 1968. The passenger compartment is not left out with various elements from the 917, the 909 Bergspyder or the Carrera GT. The steering wheel is the same as that of the 911 3 GT2019 R.

The new Porsche 935 will not be approved for the road, the target audience being sports clubs. As a result, the German brand installed the 3.8l 6-cylinder bi-turbo engine similar to that of the 911 GT2 RS which develops 700hp on the rear wheels. Only one bucket seat will be installed, but the passenger compartment will allow the installation of a second seat.

The driver will be helped by the 7-speed PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) sequential gearbox, ABS and specific driving aids (PSM: Porsche Stability Management, obviously configurable) and by optimized weight distribution. Braking is provided by 6-piston aluminum calipers associated with 380mm ventilated discs. 355mm diameter discs with 4 pistons provide the rear axle. The total weight is 1380kg (like the 911 GT2 RS) with its aluminum body.

“This spectacular car is a birthday present to Porsche Motorsport fans everywhere. Since the car is not homologated, the engineers and designers did not have to follow the usual rules and were able to benefit from greater freedom of development,” comments Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President from Porsche Motorsport.

The first customers will be able to save the sum of 701 excluding taxes to benefit from this “gift”. The first orders will be delivered in June 948.
