Renault confirms nearly 15 job cuts worldwide

Hit hard by the crisis linked to the coronavirus pandemic and already in difficulty, the group Renault is forced to take drastic savings measures in the coming years. The amount of two billion euros is advanced by the company over three years.

It should be noted first of all that the field of competition, and more particularly the stable F1 is not mentioned in this plan.

This major restructuring will partly involve an adjustment of the workforce, to use the words of the Losange firm. Concretely, nearly 15 jobs worldwide, including 000 in France, will be eliminated, via retraining measures, internal mobility and voluntary departures. Overheads and marketing will be optimized, with the use of digital tools.

Renault also plans to reduce its production capacity from 4 million vehicles in 2019 to 3,3 million by 2024. The industrial component will also include a “streamlining vehicle design and development with greater standardization.

The development of strategic technologies with high added value should be concentrated in engineering sites in Ile-de-France, and the use of R&D centers abroad and subcontracting will be optimized. » The French manufacturer is also aiming for a large modernization of its factories, these measures around the industrial apparatus being costed at 650 million euros.

Electricity still at the heart of production

Concerning France, Renault puts forward four specific working hypotheses in its restructuring plan, with electric and utility vehicles taking place in a center of excellence in the North of France, from the Douai and Maubeuge factories.

The Dieppe factory, where theAlpine A110, will see its reconversion studied at the end of production of the reincarnation of the Berlinette, when the Flins site could accommodate the “creation of a circular economy ecosystem on the site, including the transfer of activities from Choisy-le-Roi. » The strategy concerning the Fonderie de Bretagne will also be evaluated.

In China, a crucial market for many manufacturers, Renault will transfer its stake in Dongfeng Renault Automotive Company Ltd to Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and stop its Renault-badged thermal car activities on the local market.
