After the madness of records on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, time for a new fashion: speed records on the climb of Pikes Peak (Colorado). Lamborghini is launching into this new niche by announcing a record in the production SUV category thanks to the performance achieved by Simone Faggioli on August 10, 2022.

The multiple hill climb champion in Europe and winner of the 2018 edition of the legendary “ Race to the clouds » took his 4x4 Urus to an altitude of 4 meters in just 302'10"32. The previous record, held by another hillclimb expert, Rhys Millen in a Bentley Bentayga (both brands belonging to the same Volkswagen group) since 064, is beaten by 2018 seconds.

The new Lamborghini Urus was not entered in the Pikes Peak race but the sporting conditions were met for this special occasion: closed road, and official timing made in Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC).

“The decision to test ourselves at Pikes Peak reflects the Lamborghini spirit and demonstrates the exceptional performance of the new Urus model which will be presented shortly,” said Rouven Mohr, technical director of Automobili Lamborghini. “Pikes Peak is the most famous hill climb event in the world, as well as being extremely difficult on the car: the uneven track layout tests the balance of the chassis; significant elevation changes put a strain on the powertrain; and weather conditions can change very quickly between start and finish. »

The Urus featured its usual twin-turbo V8, but was modified in the area of on-board safety, via the addition of a roll bar, bucket seats with six-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher. The Urus was fitted with new tires, based on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks (285/40 R22 and 325/35 R22), developed in collaboration with the Sant'Agata Bolognese brand. As for knowing when the new Urus will remove its camouflage decoration, we will have to wait a few more weeks.
