Nasser Al Attiyah won the Sonora Rally, the third round of the World Championship Rally-Raid. A month after his retirement from the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the pilot Toyota made up for it with victory in Mexico, his second success of the year after the Dakar.

The Qatari beat Yazeed Al Rajhi (Overdrive Racing), winner in the Emirates, who finished second in the race, 6'22 behind the reigning world champion. The Mini JCWs of the X-raid clan are placed in third and fourth position in the Sonora Rally. Sebastian Halpern takes the podium and signs the best result of his career in W2RC.

This result allows Nasser Al Attiyah (136 points) to take control of the W2RC championship with a good lead over Yazeed Al Rajhi (106 points) and Sébastien Loeb, whose counter remains stuck at 101 points after his retirement during the 3rd stage of the Sonora Rally. The Frenchman will have to wait until August to take his revenge, since the next round of the W2RC will take place from August 26 to September 1 in Argentina, for the Desafio Ruta 40.
