The Silk Way Rally 2022 will refocus on the Motherland. Certainly, this was already the case in 2021, due to the resurgence of the coronavirus in Mongolia. But this time, the organizers have decided to take the lead and postpone their desires for elsewhere until later, until the geopolitical context stabilizes after two difficult years (cancellation in 2020, emergency modification of the route in 2021).

Thus, from July 6 to 16, 2022, rally-raid will take place only in Russia. However, this will not be a discounted edition, far from it. The competitors will discover terrain never before used in the event, Chechnya, located in the North Caucasus.

The Race Director, Luc Alphand, says a little more about the choice of this starting region. “One of the particularities of cross-country rallying, in addition to the sporting aspect, is the opportunity to discover new landscapes. We will be in the Chechen Republic, in magnificent mountains. Rallies have never been organized in this part of the country before. For us, as well as for the competitors, it is very important to be here and have the opportunity to experience new, unseen routes of unprecedented scale and variety.

The local authorities and the population gave us a very warm welcome, demonstrating an openness and a sincere interest in the development of tourism and motorsport in the region. I would particularly like to emphasize the high security of this region. Currently this part of Russia is very peaceful and stable, local people would like to show the whole world that the visit will be as safe and comfortable as possible. »

Won by Guerlain Chicherit and Alexandre Winocq last summer, The Silk Way Rally will end in the Russian capital, Moscow. The megacity and the SWR maintain a long-term relationship, initiated in 2010 with the status of departure city (repeated four times) and reinforced in 2018 by the final arrival.

Although the detailed map of the route will not be released for several months, it is possible to see the presence of four loops (two around Astrakhan, one in Grozny and one in Elista). The big boss of the SWR, Vladimir Chagin, prefers to warn adventurers (cars, SSV, motorcycles, trucks, quads): it will not be a ride!

“What makes the Silk Way Rally special?” The fact that each year, competitors in the event discover a completely new route, which is never repeated. The 2022 vintage will be no exception – its distance will open up many new experiences for every driver. I'm warning you right away: it's going to be interesting, but extremely difficult.

Our country is proud of its centuries-old history. Coincidently, next year marks the 350th anniversary from the birth of the person who opened a “window to Europe” for Russia, namely Peter I the Great. And our event next year will pass through many cities related to this Russian emperor. »

Women will be able to register from February 15, 2022 without paying the application fee, as will crews aged under 30.
