The Extreme E will be replaced by the Extreme H in 2025. The electric 4x4 discipline derived from the Formula E will compete with engines running on hydrogen from 2025, and French technology will be used in this regard.

Indeed, the company specializing in the design, production and marketing of hydrogen fuel cells Symbio was chosen by Extreme E as the official supplier of Extreme H, for the hydrogen fuel cell. Symbio is co-owned by Forvia (formerly Faurecia until 2023), Michelin and Stellantis!

The high-performance technology of Symbio fuel cells combines the ease of use of the internal combustion engine (good autonomy and durability, fast refueling time) with the advantages of the electric battery (no CO2 or microparticle emissions). Symbio has launched mass production of its fuel cells in its Gigafactory, SymphonHy, the largest integrated fuel cell production site in Europe, to make it a widely accessible, efficient and competitive reality.

For Extreme H, Symbio will supply a 75 kW hydrogen fuel cell that will replace the battery as the main energy source. The Extreme H fuel cells will be powered by green hydrogen, produced from a combination of solar energy and water. This technology is already used behind the scenes in Extreme E to power vehicle batteries.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: “This is an exciting transition for the championship, which has been a pioneer in sustainable technology solutions since its inception. »

Philippe Rosier, CEO of symbio, precise : “The Symbio teams are honored to be the partner of Extreme E, a pioneer in sustainable racing, for the supply of fuel cells for its next revolutionary hydrogen series.
This partnership demonstrates our technological advance. Furthermore, at Symbio, we believe that motorsport offers a unique laboratory in extreme and real conditions allowing us to test and adapt our technology to the most intense and demanding uses. We always go further to design, supply and sell the most efficient and competitive zero-emission fuel cell solutions, adapted to all market needs. »
