The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2024 (ADDC) came to an end for Guillaume de Mévius and Xavier Panseri (Toyota Overdrive). The Belgian-French tandem was forced to abandon the second stage, contested on Wednesday February 28. The Belgian driver, author of an exceptional second place in the 2024 Dakar, gave up following a compression at the bottom of a dune:

Guillaume de Mévius immediately complained about his back and stopped his Toyota Hilux T1+ to ask to be taken to hospital. Examinations revealed the collapse of a vertebra. As for Xavier Panseri, he is experiencing some pain in his back but no fracture has been detected.
“I’m fine, writes the pilot to French-speaking media, including AUTOhebdo. I am still under observation in the hospital (during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Editor’s note), but normally I will only come out with a collapse of the vertebra. I am still waiting for information on recovery. »
The team formed by Guillaume de Mévius and Guerlain Chicherit within Overdrive Racing experienced contrasting emotions, since the French driver won the special with Alex Winocq.
« Alex and I win the stage, which takes us from 17e the 6e overall position with 17'13'' behind leader Nasser Al Attiyah, but... there is a but. My teammate was the victim of a bad landing from a dune. The first examinations revealed the collapse of a vertebra, synonymous with forced rest. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery so that he returns quickly to continue with us the adventure that we started together in January ».
Overall, Nasser Al-Attiyah is ahead of a handful of Toyotas. Lucas Moraes (Toyota Gazoo Racing) by 8'16'', Juan Cruz Yacopini (Overdrive Racing) by 10'13'', Seth Quintero (Toyota Gazoo Racing) by 12'37'', Yazeed Al Rajhi fifth at 15'08 '' and Chicherit. Martin Prokop (Ford) is more than 20 minutes late today after breaking a shock absorber on “Shrek”, his Ford Raptor. The Czech, twice second in the ADDC for two years, lost his fifth place overall and fell to fourteenth position.
