The double for Jean-Baptiste Dubourg in Lans-en-Vercors

JB Dubourg

With 14 points ahead of Yann Ehrlacher and 22 over JB Dubourg on the evening of the first day in Lans-en-Vercors, Aurélien Panis had good reasons to approach this second day of racing with confidence. This is a poor understanding of the uncertainties of ice racing since now the 3 candidates for the title are only separated by 3 points!

Dubourg once again annihilated the competition by winning practice, Q1 which gave him the best qualifying times, the Super Pole and the Super Final. The reigning Champion has thus made up a large part of his gap on Aurélien Panis and will present himself at Super Besse in a strong position for his own succession thanks to the regulatory count of one result. Panis did well with a 4th place in Q1 and a 5th in Q2, but this was not enough to qualify him for Super Pole, condemning him to last place at the start of the race in the peloton.

This starting grid for the Super Final definitely looked good, a range of talents from all automotive disciplines taking the chase from Dubourg with in order Yann Ehrlacher, Dorian Boccolacci, Nicolas Cheers, Pierre-Louis Loubet, Nathanaël Berthon and Aurélien Panis. Note the beautiful solidarity of the e-paddockAndros Trophy which allowed Ehrlacher to start the race with another car, his own being the victim of a technical incident. The battle is tough on the track, but the Andros remains above all a big family.

Taking perfect flight, Dubourg and his Renault Zoe glace gave their competitors no chance to win at the end of the 5 laps of the race. A demonstration of talent for sure, but certainly not a walk in the park when we see the efforts that the pilots have to deploy between two call/counter-call sequences. Between the walls of snow and the ruts of the Lans-en-Vercors post office, driving an Andros car is a real test of strength.

In the Elite category, Jimmy Clairet carried out the good operation of the evening by imposing his Peugeot e208 in front of his main opponent Eddy Benezet. The title will be decided during the final laps at Super-Besse.

See you in a week in the heart of the Massif Central to find out the winners of this exceptional 2021-2022 vintage.
