40 years ago, Williams tested a revolutionary F1 car with 6 wheels, 4 of which were rear-wheel drive

After initial training in Donington, the Williams team joined for three days, the Çastellet served as a framework for more precise development. Patrick CAMUS was on site for AUTOhebdo. Conclusion ? The “centipede” works great… But God it’s ugly! AH292 of November 13, 1981

40 years ago, Williams tested a revolutionary F1 car with 6 wheels, 4 of which were rear-wheel drive

Thursday November 5. A seaweed green CX crosses the gates of the Paul-Ricard circuit. The classic barrier, the guardians that have become classic, the gates, etc... Dogs don't bark? Over time, and given the proliferation of this type of control, we will have to think about renewing the stock of German shepherds who end up recognizing us. Seriously, these unfortunate dogs are not succumbing to the sugar traitor but it is only a hypothesis, they fear the bad reputation that AUTO hebdo is trying to generalize.

Rosberg at Williams, maybe not a bad idea...

At the other end of the stands, on the right this time (Renault, it was on the left), the CX lets out an impressive number of passengers: Oatley and Dernie, the engineers, Jeff Hazell, the coordinator-pilot-engineer-team manager, Rosberg, Palmer, Charlie Stuart... “Good morning! ", " Good morning " ! “Above all, no technical photos!

A very good era from a technological point of view (less so in terms of safety as the sad 1982 season will prove). But I dream of an F1 that would leave this kind of freedom to ingenious people and engineers!
