Born December 22, 1962 in Luxembourg (Luxembourg)

Born in Luxembourg to a French father and a German mother, Bertrand Gachot started under a Belgian license, in karting then in Formula Ford. In 1985, he crossed the Channel and won the RAC Formula Ford championship with Van Diemen. He confirmed in Formula Ford 2000, becoming GB champion and vice-European champion in 1986 on Reynard. British runner-up F3 on Ralt in 1988, then 5e of the 3000 International F1988 championship on Reynard, he arrived in F1 in 1989, as part of the fledgling Onyx team.
