Detection operations do not only concern young talents. Proof of this is the Volant Michel Vaillant x Yema, organized over three days in Fontenay-le-Comte (Vendée), which allowed a gentleman driver, Nicolas Hermet, to win a year of racing in the French Historical Circuit Championship (Historic Round).

The lucky winner had to work hard to win. Indeed, the Volant Michel Vaillant brought together 16 participants, all car enthusiasts but with (very) little experience of the circuit. The selection, launched by the Classic Racing School and the Vaillante Académie, deliberately targeted driving enthusiasts rather than accomplished drivers.

Le Volant Michel Vaillant consisted of several mechanical and practical workshops. Five finalists were selected based on their progress curve over the three days, their times on the track aboard Crosslé adorned in the colors of the famous comic strip. “They also had to be worthy of the values of Michel Vaillant,” explains Pierre Sancinéna, instructor for the Classic Racing School.

The level of the final was so high that the organizers modified the program to leave a final driving session for the duelists, Pauline Delarbre and Nicolas Hermet. A mother for three months, Pauline was defeated following a slight error during her run of three timed laps. “Both deserved to win,” recognizes Pierre Sancinéna. It was a very difficult decision to make. »

Nicolas Hermet will wear the colors of Michel Vaillant for the six rounds planned for 2022 of the Formula Ford Historic Challenge. “He corresponds to the profile we were looking for,” concludes Pierre Sancinéna. Even if it rolled somewhat in karting, he is a beginner on the circuit. We saw strong potential for progress. Moreover, his evolution over the three days of selection alone was obvious. »

Those who failed can rest assured, the operation will be organized again in 2022. Other good news, registrations should open “at the end of 2021 or early 2022”.
