In 2022, Michelin intends to achieve a 25th success in a row at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Clermont-Ferrand manufacturer equips all cars in the Hypercar category as well as GTE Pro and GTE Am in Sarthe.

We have to go back to 1923 to note the first victory of a car equipped with Michelin tires at Le Mans: the Chenard & Walcker Sport of André Lagache and René Léonard, which drove at an average of more than 92 km/h on a circuit in land of 17 km. It has been 98 years since Michelin entered its name on the list of winners of the most famous raceEndurance in the world.

Michelin in 2022 at Le Mans

No less than 7 tires were transported to the Le Mans paddock to equip the 000 Michelin partner vehicles. The tires used during Sunday's Test Day (around 35) were brought back to the Clermont-Ferrand factory the next day, then trucks loaded with the same number of tires arrived at Le Mans on Tuesday. This organization makes it possible to optimize logistics costs and reduce the environmental impact of transport.

In order to provide assistance on site, a 1 m700 covered paddock was erected. This is broken down into 2 m800 of assembly workshop and 2 m900 of tire storage area. The staff is also essential to the success of the event. 2 operators specializing in the assembly and dismantling of envelopes are present at Le Mans as well as 54 technicians and engineers who roam the garages of the teams concerned.

When returning to the pits after a stint, a slick tire can reach up to 130 degrees. Gloves are therefore mandatory to avoid getting burned!
