The honor of driving the “Leading Car” which will guide the peloton during the formation lap of this 90e edition, Saturday June 11, goes to Gérard Larrousse. Born in Lyon in 1940, Gérard Larrousse only participated in eight 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1967 to 1974, but signed two 2es places with the Porsche 917 (1969 and 1970) and two victories with the Matra MS670 (1973 and 1974) which he shared with Henri Pescarolo. The two men will also drive on the Le Mans circuit with the Matra on the sidelines of this 90th edition. A genius all-rounder, he was crowned French circuit champion six times (from 1969 to 1974), twice finished 2e du Rally Monte-Carlo with Porsche, won a multitude of prestigious races (Tour de Corse 1969, 12 Hours of Sebring and 1000 km of the Nürburgring 1971, Targa Florio 1974…), and participated in two Grand Prix of F1. With his helmet hung up, Gérard Larrousse was director of Renault Sport from 1976 to 1984 (F1, Rally, Sport-prototypes with victory at Le Mans 1978), before being sporting director of Ligier in F1, then co-founding his own team from 1987 with Didier Calmels.
