The World Endurance Championship (WEC) Et les 24 Hours of Le Mans will say goodbye to the GTE Pro at the end of 2022. This was announced by Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) during the ACO press conference this Friday June 11 at MMArena.

The GTE Am will disappear at the end of the 2023 season. Grand Touring fans can rest assured, the GTs will not, however, leave the sphere of WEC and Le Mans. Indeed, as had already been revealed in 2021, the GT3s will arrive in Sarthe in 2024.

The ACO announces a special Le Mans kit

New precision, a kit dedicated to the specificities of Le Mans will be added. In order to contain costs, standard off-the-shelf tires will be used, as is already the case for the GTD class (GT3 + Corvette C8.R) in IMSA in the USA. The involvement of private teams will be favored by those responsible for the WEC and the ACO, in a philosophy which will recall the organization of the current GTE Am. So this means that factory formations like Corvette Racing or Porsche Motorsport should not be able to participate.
