José María López: “Victory will have more flavor but so will defeat”

Winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021, the Argentinian expects fierce competition this year with the return of the big manufacturers. But before thinking about a possible new victory, “Pechito” returned for AUTOhebdo to his relationship with Sarthe, a place he knows more than one might think.

When did you discover Le Mans?

I came to settle in Le Mans in 2003 when I joined the Renault Driver Development. I immediately signed with DAMS for the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup (crowned champion in 2003. Editor's note). Plus the team isn't based very far from here. I obviously knew the 24 Hours as a motorsport fan but also because of their importance. Little by little, I got to know them better. I had the chance to come and watch the night race. This is where this love story began. I said to myself that it would be nice to do them one day. Eventually things came to a head
